About me - Kelly Blackwell

Traveller         Teacher          Author

I don't usually have any trouble writing, a comment to which anyone on my email address list will testify. But I've been putting off writing this statement for around a month now. I have a fully functional website on which information and resources abound, but my 'about me' page is blank. This must end! I cannot procrastinate any longer.

So, this is all about me...
I guess you're looking at this page because you want to know why I consider myself an 'expert' on the subject of teaching overseas. Well, I have taught in 6 countries over the last 12 years. Countries that range from the Antipodes, through Asia to Europe, and I've loved it all.

If Your Goal Is To Get A
Teaching Job Abroad...
I Can Help You Achieve That Goal!

I have taught English as a Foreign Language, English for Academic Purposes, Business English, English language classes of 1-50 students. I've taught summer school, university preparation courses and kindergarten.

Since I've moved away from teaching English language, I have taught high school Economics, Health and Social Education, and Design Technology. In fact, I've taught three separate Design Technology curriculums (or curricula, depending on where you're from). That happens when you move around like I have. Recently I've made the move to my second international school and am now working in the library.

I'm not writing this to brag, because it really makes me feel old, truth be told! I'm trying to give you the information you need to have confidence in what I'm saying on my website and in my book
The Complete Guide to Securing a Job at an International School.

I teach in international schools because I'm a traveller at heart. I love visiting new countries and exploring new cultures. I'm currently living in Asia and this last year I've explored Thailand's islands, the north of Thailand, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Singapore, Hanoi in Vietnam, back to the UK to visit friends and home to NZ twice (first time in 4 years!). And I've just got back from spending a month travelling in China. There are so many opportunities to travel when you are living abroad.

You may wonder why I changed from teaching English language in private language schools to teaching in international schools. And I'm happy to tell you, it's because the money and conditions offered by international schools are generally better than those offered by the private language schools. Now this is not a universal truth, but it is true in most cases, and certainly in my experience.

I decided to put this website together to stretch myself. I work better when I have a huge 'to-do' list. I hope it helps you in your job search. Please email me personally if you have any questions. I would love to hear from you, and whilst I don't promise to have all the answers, I will certainly do my best to help you out, or find the resources you need.

Kelly Blackwell's Complete Guide to Securing a Job at an International School
Good luck, and I hope to be working with you at an international school in the future.
